With effect from the 1st September 2026, the TPS has re-introduced the royalty fee. We don’t agree with it, but it’s not our choice. From the 1st September 2026 we have to start paying fees for every number screened, even if we give it away for free.
We created TPS Checker as one of our TPS solutions specifically aimed at small businesses and one-man bands who wanted to TPS Screen small quantities of numbers against the TPS and CTPS.
The concept was simple, make it as cheap (if not free) as possible to the smallest businesses to help them be compliant with the law.
We’ve been providing an allowance of daily free credits for over 15 years.
You might think that now, amidst the many other increases businesses face, that this is not the right time to force a price increase from the TPS, but is there ever a right time?
The TPS needs funding so it is in effect forcing a price increase to achieve this. You may not directly appreciate it, but is in fact for the long term good of the industry.
The effect on us is simply that we will shortly have to cease offering free credits. We’re not going to do this straight away despite the royalties commencing on 1st September 2026. But from 1st January 2027, we will no longer be offering free daily credits.
If the royalties ever cease (as they did back in 2012), we will re-introduce the free credits.
We just want everyone to be compliant and, where we can, we’d like to think that we’ve done our part for the last 15 years or so in helping the smallest businesses TPS Screen small volumes of data with little to no cost.
I guess, as they say, all good things must come to an end.
